I was going to school for 6 hours and then working 8 hours with about an hour drive time between the university, my job and home. Big triangle. Then working back to back double shifts on the weekend at the group home (special education teacher for the same company during the week and the weekend) and occasionally picking up that middle weekend shift just for the OT.

Summer time, evening shifts, so I took the Vulcan because it was incredible on gas. Did the 40 hour weekend thing, picked up another 8 immediately after because of a lack of staffing and then had to go to school. I knew if I tried to take a nap I'd never wake back up in time for anything so I just guzzled coffee and prayed. I absolutely do not remember the ride from school to the group home. Not a single thing. I apparently slept rode the entire way because the next thing I remember after starting my bike  is actually being in the group home restraining a kid who was acting out.

That was the night that it took 5 staff members and a naked wet kid in a helmet to put me in the quiet room.

I've been known to push myself on some brutal schedules so nodding off at the wheel is, while not a common occurrence, one that's happened more frequently than I care for.

Lost an adopted brother that way. One of the kids my mom adopted after their mom passed away. He was working 3 jobs to pay child support and actually be able to afford a place to live and while driving between one job to another he fell asleep at the wheel and went off the road at 70 mph into a tree.
