It's been a stressful day here with the heat and haze,
and I'm going to call it a night very shortly,
so I wish you all a pleasant night with a restful sleep.
and pray that we all stay safe and secure this night.

Thank you.  And thanks for that OC Register link to the map.  Fire crews did a good job keeping that Trabuco leg of the fire from advancing.

I'll admit that seeing that fire make it over the ridge tonight was a little surprising.  All day it looked like it was running towards Lake Elsinore - the opposite direction.

Fires really have a mind of their own though.

I'm sure it was a shock to see it come over the ridge !!
God willing, they will get it controlled and out ASAP.

We have already spent a summer with fires and fire suppression helicopter with their shocking pink liquid everywhere. Inspired us to do some tree cutting. We plan to do some more if the [redacted ] project comes through. Trees look pathetic from the borer beetle damage. Is a great computer really going to manage this stuff? Fantastic! Its a headache for mere mortals.
There is a meteor shower, yay!

The Q-is-a-larp crowd is reviving their campaign. And yet they are saying nothing about Kew.

So I say -- pour yerself a cuppa and enjoy the show. coffe2

Thank you. Present and accounted for. The fire gave us a BIG show last night, but then laid down for the night. Thank God!

It has still spread to 18K+ acres, but oddly, the smoke situation looks much better - at least for this morning. The weather is supposed to be better today. Fingers crossed.

Part of the problem yesterday was the winds and that freak thunderstorm that no one predicted. Obviously, the winds will drive a fire very quickly, but it also stopped the larger tankers from flying in. It's too dangerous, and they can't fly through thick smoke clouds with jet engines. The particulates get sucked right into those engines and destroy them.

That actually happened with Global Supertanker last week. She flew a little to close to another fire and one engine was damaged. They had to replace the whole engine and she was out of action for three days. That's a lot of missed drop opportunities.

But we do have the prop planes, and 10 Tanker was working furiously yesterday. Non-stop. She has jet engines too, but they decided to keep her flying longer to save some houses. Here's one of her precision drops yesterday. Man, she got right in between that fire line and houses. PERFECT DROP AND AMAZING PILOTS! Please forgive my language, but these guys have balls of steel to fly like that. NO FEAR!

So, it looks like Trabuco Canyon is flaring up again in the last hour. It's all going to depend on the weather today.

One thing I noticed yesterday afternoon is that there are more military fire fighting planes here. Army. Interesting.
