Currently, Justify is loading on to Air Horse One for his flight to Maryland.  Tracker here...

http://www.suttonforwarding.com/FlightTracker.aspx

According to Flightradar24, they are running a little late.

Justify has been galloping 1 1/2 miles for the last four days.  The first two didn't look so good, slightly favoring that left hind leg.  It really was slight, but noticeable.

They are still saying heel bruise, and I think that really may have been it (sort of.)  As I mentioned, they quickly fitted him with a 3/4 plate (shoe) that relieved the pressure on his heel.  Here's some good/quick info. on this type of therapeutic shoe.  http://e-hoof.com/glossary/en/three-quarter-horseshoe  Sometimes it has that "L" segment, sometimes not.  No one has been allowed to get a good picture of the shoe fitted on Justify, only pics with his foot on the ground.

However, yesterday (I think) they put a full shoe back on and added a pad and Equilox. Equilox is a silicone gel that is squirted in between the bottom (sole) of the hoof and the pad and gives a human running shoe kind of effect.  Very cushy and helps relieve pressure.

This tells me a couple of things.  The three-quarter shoe was causing more problems or not providing enough relief, and there is probably a more extensive bruise on the sole of the hoof, or possibly the frog.  Equilox can only protect those two areas of the hoof.  It provides more cushion for the entire foot, but it doesn't directly protect the heel.

I can guarantee they've been soaking and poulticing that foot each day too.  There's never an easy fix for this, except time - which they don't have.  Shoeing, soaking, poulticing and praying.  That's about it.

So, for right now, Justify is still a go for the Preakness.  This still could change in a heartbeat though.  Pimlico has a very different racing surface from Churchill which might affect the foot too.

I'll post pics and short videos of his gallops soon.  @OldWhiteGuy  I'd love to hear Youngwhitegal's opinion on the above and videos coming in a bit.

Here's the three-quarter shoe.  I actually did find a pic of it while walking too, so it didn't have the "L".  Not that it matters really.  Just details.

I have no idea what that "4/9" is ... A typo? ... If not, please explain!!

To calculate the odds on a two dollar bet:

Multiply 1st number by two, divide by 2nd number, add two.

That's how I read it, but with those odds, who would bet? Scratchinghead

Agreed!

Good mornin'!  Coffee is not quite kicking in yet, so I've been going through some old rally stuff for inspiration.

Is this a great entrance, or what?  First rally since the inauguration.  Damn, wasn't it wonderful so see him roll up in Air Force One instead of his own plane?

Ok, on with my day.  I'll get caught up with an update on Justify this morning.  There's quite a bit.

That vid was inspiring to watch !! Cheer

I'm looking forward to the Justify update.
I'll be gone for several hours, but will check in when I'm back.

Well, it is a 40% profit ~ not bad for a two minute investment (or there abouts).

Hello fellow coffeve fans!!... I'll shortly be sipping some fine, aged, Kentucky bourbon! Never forget four things worth getting up early for:

Faster horses
Older whiskey
Younger women
More money!

Now that that's settled, my thoughts on the Preakness.....

Justify just might pull off a horse racing first!...... He just might lap this field of horses. He's that good. The shorter distance should showcase his ability.

Except for one problem - that pesky back foot injury. From what I'm seeing, based upon the treatment used, this is a serious bruise. I can only think of three possible causes for this injury:

1. He stepped on a rock. (Highly unlikely on Churchills groomed race course)
2. He kicked something, most likely the wall in his stall.
3. His foot got clipped by a trailing horse in the Derby.

Numbers one and two usually aren't very serious. Number three can be career ending. Usually if a horse clips heels, you'll see a cut on the heel and the injury itself is higher up on the heel, but it can happen anywhere on the foot. Even so, the lack of visible injury, plus the fact that he appeared to leave the winners circle sound, makes me think that he most likely kicked something in his stall. This would also explain Baffert's surprise upon seeing him lame after the day after Derby.

So, the champ kicked the wall. They'll soak his foot and pack it with poultice. You can be sure that the state veterinarian will go over him with a fine toothed comb before allowing him to race. He'll be allowed to race on a little bute (kind of like a tylenol, but for horses) If Justify is led over to the race, he'll be 100%.. He's training with a 3/4 shoe, which allows better access to his heel for treatment, and also to relieve any stress. I'd imagine he'll have a full shoe and some sort of pad come race day.

Verdict? No big deal. He'll crush this field. Yeah3

(I'll get YoungWhiteGal's opinion when she gets back to the house.)
Get over it or die mad.

Please see above.

And nope - NO RACE DAY BUTE!!!!  No pain masking drugs allowed at all.  If he tests positive - instant DQ.

Here's the rules and testing guidelines in New York.  I believe Maryland follows this very closely.  I'm not sure if they have theirs posted online though.  Looking.
