For anything less than a hostage situation though, a shotgun is what I recommend for urban home defense. And <shock> provided it's for HD only and particularly those unfamiliar with firearms, a 20ga will do nicely.

Yes  agree with everything you said.. But there is the scenario he pointed out that the Bad you has your wife or loved one.. You are forced to take a shot the shotgun is useless because you will hit your family member..

Chuckle Hence, my preface right off the bat.

and even with that i commented in his video a laser dot is a go to on any weapon..Along with a Can or Suppressor on the weapon.. You will probably be in a low light or no light situation..So you might as well put a flash light on there also.. (The Can will help save your night vision and also with the noise)

I ordered but haven't received it yet but there's a FREE ($5 shipping)

The EasyGuide is a simple, step-by-step buyer’s guide to use when purchasing a silencer. It helps customers understand the benefits of buying as an individual or NFA trust, provides a checklist of all forms due to the BATFE and CLEO, offers examples of how each form should be completed, and includes blank sample forms.

OK, I know everyone has their own opinion on “Home Defense” weapons. Well, that includes me. Now, you know I don’t mind voicing my opinion and I’m a little “long-winded”, but I ask that you bare with me. My opinion is “Go with what you know.” If you only practice with a pistol; use that pistol for home defense. If you carry a rifle for a living, then it only makes sense for you to use the same type weapon for home defense. Now you notice that I’ve mentioned a pistol and a rifle. I haven’t said shit about a shotgun. That surprises many of you, because “everyone” on the internet/TV/movies push using a shotgun for home defense. -It doesn’t go through walls like a pistol -The “Racking Sound” will scare the intruder away. -You don’t have to aim -Better in low light -The Pump Shotgun will never jam -Weapon of choice for Zombies Well, call me crazy, but to me, for Home Defense, I want: -Accuracy, so I don’t hit friendlies -Stopping power -Something that I have “Muscle-memory” with, for ease of use in hasty situations Shotguns are for breaching doors and shooting birds.
A good AR, with a white light and good optic… along with a quality way to secure it safely; that’s all you need. Enough said.

I agree...to a degree.

For women and smaller statured males, Remington's 870 youth model is virtually perfect. Relatively low recoil, easy to handle even in a narrow hallway, and the problem of over-penetration through interior walls or into the next apartment is greatly reduced with choice loads. The idea is that if you have to pull the trigger, you want massive blood loss with the fewest rounds expended.

Years ago, I found a 21" smoothbore barrel with open sights for my Rem 1100. Along with the "condo commando" buttstock and fore-end (with molded-in light attachment), I feel pretty well set.

Note: shottys with a pistol grip only might be good for the "cool factor". But a pistol grip with a full buttstock goes miles for providing choices in aiming. Held low, you can clamp the buttstock to your hip with your elbow, or throw it to your shoulder for a more precisely aimed shot.

YMMV

Why would you hit your family member?
At less than 15 feet the shot spread is negligible, not much more than bore diameter even from a cylinder bore, and if the target area you are trying to hit is less than 3/4 of an inch, with your adrenaline pumping, it may not be a good idea to take a shot at all.

Carry Trainer and Ret. Green Beret Zee Durham taught a Tactical Pistol Course fall 2017 at the Hilltop Firearms Training Center in Dover, Tennessee. The two day class focused on combat shooting with a pistol for concealed carry self defense and armed professionals.

Anyone from or Near Dover Tennessee?? (Who wouldn't mind hanging for a day or two ??)

Day 2 Tactical Pistol class in Dover, Tn (Whole lotta good stuff in these videos..)

Look at the scenario in the video.. At 2:15 with his "Wife" being held in a headlock..He takes the shot(With the shotgun) but hits her several times with shot ..

Did you see the spread he had on the first shot?
Did you notice how far away that target is?
For a book I am writing I have been doing experiments on the spread of shot gun patterns at various ranges, using guns with cylinder bore, modified and full chokes.
Those patterns he is showing are at ranges far beyond what you will find in a typical house.
The longest range in my own house is 26 feet.
At that range my trenchgun has a spread of just over 6 inches.
Modified choke, just under 5.
Full chokes, 3.
He is full of shit.
This was with 7 1/2 shot.

Ooooh!  Never noticed this thread before!

My trusty ole Browning 9 has been occasionally misfiring?

The primer head on the bullet will have a slight dimple but no fire?  Any idea?
