What until you see this incredible video of the hard landing is what they are saying, yet the exact same video is on youtube for a previous landing that wasn't even an emergency.

Here is the video of MS-08 that CNN are faking to be todays crash landing of MS-10. They claimed the video show it landing "harder than normal" and it almost seems to "explode" into a cloud of dust.

Fake news. The proof:

MS-08. Pause at 6:29. Normal Scheduled Landing

CNN.

MS-10 Pause at 1:14. Todays emergency landing.

The Soviet/Russian Soyuz has always descended via a non-steerable ring-sail (parachute) and fired a retro-rocket a few meters before touchdown to soften the impact. I figured the retro-rocket was mostly to guarantee that they always land in the center of a grass fire. The descent rate on the ring-sail is too high for landing comfort and safety. The high rate of descent (about 20 meters/second) makes the single large chute easier to deploy reliably and less affected by ambient winds. An hour and a half by helo from the launch complex means they landed some 300 to 400 miles downrange. Even with a normal controlled re-entry, the Russians just aim at a general area of dry, reasonably flat land for recovery. Soyuz has no terminal guidance capability.
