Poking the Bear

My speculation about a pause in Syrian military ops in the Dara'a/Quneitra area continues to lose credibility. Syrian activity has in fact ramped up, and extended into areas I expected to remain ignored a while longer.

This *could* be because Syria saw an opportunity to work on some of the most sensitive areas while Israel was distracted with Gaza. And it could be I was just wrong :).

Whatever the truth is, Syria has struck in the far north sector directly opposite and just a few km from Quneitra itself.

Syrian Millitary Launches Attack In Al-Quneitra, Continues Its Advance In Western Daraa

Fighting near Quneitra and in western Dara'a is reportedly heavy.

Idlib continues to heat up with fights between HTS and ISIS, another FSE drone shot down over Russia's main air base, and a strong Syrian attack (apparently trying to take and occupy new territory - not simply a punitive attack) on an HTS occupied town.

Turkish President Voices Concerns About Expected Operation Against Militants In Syria’s Idlib

Lots more going on which I'll ignore for now. A shadowy group is fighting US backed forces in Raqqa and has attacked a gathering of US coalition leaders (with US military reps present). I'm suspicious this might be an SAA proxy...local Arabs unhappy with Kurdish control and quite possibly aligned with Assad. Announcements from Helsinki pending and probably imminent.

Yemen is still "quiet" compared to a few weeks ago. Daily Saudi air attacks in various places, Houthi missiles launched at gatherings of Saudi forces...an ambushed resupply convoy here and there.....low intensity guerilla conflict has returned. Until the next major Saudi push toward Hodeidah, and no telling if or when they'll actually feel ready for that.

With so much being accomplished without serious fighting, it's not difficult to understand keeping the  momentum going at least until the ISIS pocket is fully isolated with absolutely no way out except the Israeli border.

well...at least one of my speculative outbursts seems to be unfolding accurately :) I've been monitoring some Jerusalem Post articles along these lines as well. Thanks for sharing that :)

Today's video synopsis

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pfdJJ9EiwtQ

This infuriating report began circulating early yesterday, and I hesitated to post it wanting more info...because I can't imagine how it would look in practice. Is this the diplomatic equivalent of "virtue signaling"? Trial balloon? Freaking insanity either way or otherwise in my opinion.

US And Allies Planning Evacuation Of White Helmets From Syria

So, Syria is just going to open a corridor and let US, Brit or French trucks drive through their lines to rescue a bunch of FOREIGN mercenary, false flag, chemical weapon using, head chopping jihadists waltz out to safety? Helicopter transport of 1000+ men PLUS their families? I can't see it.

Some good news is US coalition (Kurdish) forces actually do seem to be making a serious move to eradicate an ISIS stronghold on the east side of the Euphrates. There have been quite a few cross-river attacks on Syrian army positions from this area in the past while US coalition forces couldn't manage to see anything happening at all. Maybe Helsinki changed that? I can only hope.

Syria continues to press toward that ISIS stronghold in the southwest, this time from the north. They've got the south and west *pretty well* sewed up. Once Nawa capitulates or falls to military action, there truly is NO place left for ISIS to run but Israel.

For two days now I've been trying to get more info on what is clearly a developing escalation in Ukraine. So far, Donbass separatists are getting blamed for all the attacks and I have been horribly ineffective at finding information from the side of the separatists.....and the reports from Kiev are notoriously partisan and totally skewed propaganda.

Not sure what is going on yet, but a lot of this recent "action" is focused around Mariupol on the Sea of Azov. Usually the clashes occur further north.

Time to keep an eye on Ukraine a bit more.

Neocon efforts in Syria are a hopeless failure so Ukraine may represent their next "playground".... There are only three active conflicts to speak of and all three are pretty "low intensity" from the perspective of Lockheed Martin, Loral, BAE, Raytheon and the like. Not much equipment getting destroyed or expensive missiles getting tossed around.

Syria, Ukraine and Afghanistan are what they have to work with atm and they simply will not be satisfied to let the status quo stand for long. They were reported to have gotten an "order boost" when Trump threatened NATO...but I sincerely doubt that was big enough to suit their greed, nor will it last long enough. They need WARS where stuff gets blown up and needs replacement.

If you are just looking for info from the side of the separatists -- here are a few proposals, these sources are "non-neutral" for sure. Beware.

Turkish President Voices Concerns About Expected Operation Against Militants In Syria’s Idlib

Turkey has additional worries now:

Quote:The implications of any US-Russian deal for northern Syria are at the heart of Turkish fears. Turkey wants to clear US-backed Kurdish People's Protection Units (YPG) fighters in northern Syria and prevent an autonomous Kurdish entity from emerging.

Reports that Washington is working with Moscow to secure an accord for northern Syria between the Assad regime and the Kurds in areas currently controlled by the YPG are increasing Ankara’s concerns.

President Recep Tayyip Erdogan is trying to jockey himself into a position between Trump and Putin that would give him a decisive say on what happens in Syria.

@roamer bro you always come through when I'm floundering and i appreciate it :) Thanks for those links to some Ukrainian news even if some of it does have "slant" in the other direction. I've gotten used to trying to parse out the truth when all I have is two propaganda outlets with middle eastern news sources because you'll get one slant from Al Jazeera and Gulf News and then another slant from SABA :) Between the two sometimes you can sort out the propaganda and at least get some idea about what really happened and who did it.

I didn't even have a propaganda laced side of the separatist story to work with for Ukraine :) TY for the warning and thanks for the links. :)

This thread is always better when you participate so thanks for the posts too :)

Thank you! I just added three (edit: four) more links to my previous post (Novorossia today, Voice of Sevastopol, Slavyangrad blog and Stalker Zone).
Whenever the military situation in the Eastern Ukraine escalates you might use an online translator to take a look at Colonel Cassad -- the english edition of the site went dark years ago.
