It's weird when I think about it...

Now a days people don't cut their grass as frequently and let the grass grow tall and weeds grow up on their property. I don't recall as a kid people letting their grass grow long and weeds grow up. You might of saw one property in the whole neighbourhood that didn't cut their grass and that was usually because no one was living there or they had gone away for the month. Now there are all kinds of properties with weeds growing up. It's like some people don't care anymore. I don't know how they sit out in their yard with foot tall grass and all kinds of weeds growing up and crap strewn around and enjoy themselves without being driven buggy looking at it and not having the urge to clean it up some. Yeah

No kids. No children. You "recall as a kid" because you were a child. Whites stopped having children. Old people don't give a shit about tall grass. There are no kids to help mow or weed.
Get over it or die mad.

Actually I find old people more diligent about keeping up their property than younger people.

@OldWhiteGuy Where have you been? Hugs

I have about an acre to mow. I hired someone to do it for me when my riding lawnmower broke. It's a lot less expensive that way for me.

Many people are busy, they work long hours, the lawn is the least of their concerns. My husband works 14 hour days regularly and while I try to help out sometimes he would prefer I wasn't out in the heat doing what he calls his job. Our lawn gets a little ugly but it's not like the grass is a foot high. We never let it get that bad.
I am an evil giraffe, and I shall eat more leaves from this tree than perhaps I should, so that other giraffes may die.

We had to let our grass grow longer than normal.

Between the flood and the huge trash pile that destroyed our grass and the lack of rain (until recently)...our grass was dead.

So we decided to let it grow after we seeded it....and now it's filling in very nicely. It's long, but lush.

We noticed more and more of our neighborhood followed us....their grass is looking healthier too.

But the yards where people mow to the bones every week...they're grass is dead. All dried up and crispy looking.

It's been really hot out here in Texas. Longer grass in the summer is better for the yard and even cuts back on the need for extra watering.
