it kinda looks like some kind of cast object and the center ridge was where the mold came together to pop out the cast object. I imagine (if this is an artificially created object) that there were early versions of things and they've gotten the process dialed in to get things more spherical since this early one were made...

Or it just turned out that way in it's "natural" formation due to magnetic/energetic conditions?

This place (solar system/universe) is way more mysterious than we can imagine, and the way things got to be the way they are will probably never be truly revealed to us, lowly humans...

I had a strange very vivid dream (I used to read a scifi book every night, huge Asimov, Clarke, Pohl, Nivens, etc. fan, so it was deep in my psyche, and studied astronomy, incessantly, so I knew every planet, diameter, surface gravity, escape velocity, satellites, etc) that I stole my dad's spaceship, and my friend and I flew to... Iapetus! It was dark, creepy, and boring, we couldn't stay long, because we had to get the ship back before he noticed it missing. I wasn't particularly enthralled by Iapetus at that time, don't know why I dreamed that, but I've always figured that I would find something out about it later, and here it is... and, it certainly looks like the death star!

Trying to wrap my brain around a twelve mile wide, twelve mile high ridge around the planet, and am unable to. That's a helluva wall/barrier. What could cause such a thing to "naturally" occur? If it was "created" or built - why would it be made? It looks like it's part of the design, or if it was just randomly formed that way, it's very old, being the same color and texture as the surrounding environment, cratered, etc.

How wouldn't I love to know all these things... Being an amateur astronomer/astrophysicist wannabe... Iapetus, reveal thy secrets!!

How many of you have read this? Saturnian Cosmology

absolutely fascinating. A very long read, but it will definitely stir your curiosity about the mysteriousness of the solar system/universe, etc.

This guy, correct or not, has some theories that are literally out of this world.

He backs it up with some very thought-provoking evidence... using the axial tilts of the planets, etc, which is very compelling, plus the ancient art forms found all over the earth from various cultures, that coincide temporally and making connections using theories that connect the electric universe theory, and taking Immanuel Velikovsky's Worlds in Collision theory some steps further, he postulates that the solar system has undergone some serious re-organization over the millennia and has attempted to figure out what happened.

I have read few books that even approached how fascinating this subject matter is and have a great respect for this guy as a researcher. He's got several degrees, is an engineer and physicist and studies ancient artifacts and cultures.

I can't recommend it highly enough.

So if you are into this stuff, you can read the whole thing for free at the link I posted.

Very interesting post Astrochick.

It reminded me of the way a mold is cast as well. Two halves put together in a mold create a seem.

It also made me thing that something crushing had an ill effect on that moon...but I can't imagine what sort of gravitational effect would produce something capable of crushing the north and south poles of a moon at the same time to produce that.

There was a video on Youtube a while back about how a seem/wall was found under our ocean and it looked like it wrapped itself around our planet...it was found on Google Earth...but that wall looks artificial. It even appears to have gates so many miles apart...with huge tire tracks that look like giant earth machines made them.

Hey, it's awesome to read that you are also a science fiction fan! It's my favorite genre as well. Not many people even know who Pohl is, so it's nice to read from someone who has read his work.

Farsight Institute also did a remote viewing episode on this Moon of Saturn. They titled the video "Aliens on Iapetus"

Click and bookmarked. Thanks very much.

Question: Have you reviewed any research or studies of some of these "moons" which when viewed with infra-red temperature monitors, show "hotspots" at random regions of these bodies? I read this somewhere but cannot find anything online.
