There is nothing on the market that compares to the ease, capacity, and usability as the Xfinity DVR. TiVo is the closest thing but then there's the subscription fee which makes me choke. 1dunno1 Any suggestions?

I feel the same way.

I don't want to give up live tv, I don't want to lose my channels, I love recording everything, I'm also not a big movie person, not to where I watch them daily.

Anyone know anything about sling tv? I apologize if it's been mentioned already, I haven't read the thread all the way through yet.

This is right on and I agree with you in principle. However there are people like my SO who must have cable TV. You ask yourself why? Because the programming flows continuously from one sitcom to the next. There is no need for the user to interact via the remote control. It is just like broadcast tv. Plus she is a Luddite when it comes to anything technological. To put this is in context, my friend needs to have the tv on and blaring to be able to sleep. go figure... So a continuous flow of programming for hours and hours is required.

Re: Sling ~ my better half subscribed for a while ~ it's basically network (perhaps others) TV shows, with commercials, but on YOUR schedule. She decided she didn't want it after a while.

I have not played with a Roku unit yet but I have a Apple TV, a Fire TV and a Raspberry PI unit. I use the PI %99 of the time. It takes a bit more to set up but is the most robust of all these units. The other units are nice as long as you choose to live inside it’s ecosystem. Every update to the base OS can bring a lot of problems as Apple and Amazon want to control how and what you do with their unit. The PI does not care one way or the other. I run Kodi on a 64gb micro sd card with a 4tb usb drive. I can play music, movies, home movies and download a bunch of apps if I want. I have around 300 movies and I am now burning my TV show collection for it. If I change out the micro sd card with a 16gb image of Retropi, I can play around 550 NES, 760 SNES, 1000 Sega Gen games and around 20 or so PS1 games. Change out the card again and I have a small computer that I can browse the web, do email or play DOS games on. All this can run on about 4watts of power or around $10 a year depending on where you live.

Something to think about....
