@Sami is working on a way those of us along the east coast can check in JIC. Anything you or I could do to help, I'm sure she'd appreciate.

Thanks @RedAuroras.

I'm collecting a list of names here, and locations nationwide in the US. since we all are dealing with weather issues or EQs. If someone lives on a  US island like Puerto Rico, etc feel free to add information needed.

Even if you live somewhere other than the US, say like NZ, Canada, Venezuela, UK, again, add your information and we will know to focus into your location.

Feel free to bump this thread with name and location and I will add it to my previous list. Soon, when I get more time, I WILL be making a thread on it's own, but for now I am able to put new names with the others. If you don't know if I have it, no problem, post it anyway.

^^^THIS WOMAN RIGHT HERE!^^^  Heartflowers  Yeah3  "Proactive instead of reactive" I had stayed with the east coast/gulf states to jive with the OP title. And she takes it two steps further. Some might look at this and think, "No way am I publicizing where I live." Ok fine...no pressure. But with the EQ's, flooding, natural as well as manmade disasters, it'd be nice to know, "Whatever happened to XXXXXX?"

And just as a morbid(?) reminder. Make sure someone you absolutely trust knows your user name and password. That way, if the worst should happen, they can post the info here.

I hate thinking of that possibility but you are right, Red. Can you imagine always wondering, "Whatever happened to.." when the last we knew they had a Cat 5 bearing down on them, or a 8.2 ?

I think worst case, maybe the mods would help out to call a missing poster in a case like that, since (assuming here) they have everyone's phone numbers. To be honest, I don't remember if we were asked when joining. But that goes back to why I said on the other thread, everyone needs at least one buddy here that they can share phone numbers with.

Chuckle If this hybrid (Burmese/Indian) python gets a foothold, they're going to have to spread that green area north! Fearporn producers are speculating as far up as into Georgia. Smileyfud

When we moved from Tampa to the interior we left behind George, a ball python.

He had escaped out of his cage and was not in the house. 1dunno1

An all too familiar tale! They found a female a day or so back that was nesting on 50 eggs. And of course there was the one a few weeks back that was carrying 73 developing eggs. Two females = over 120 babies!

I have a 120/240v gas generator. I get tired of running drop cords all thru the house and back.
Is there any way to hook it up to the houses electrical system without a $400+ “switch”?
I know it is deadly to back feed on to the grid. But if I turn off the main breakers, can I make a safe connection some how?

Thanks in advance for any help!

Cheers

I will help out if you want to go the poor man's route. Answer #12 of this thread did a
good job explaining the dangers involved. I say stay with your cords. Heavy cords near the
generator then branch out later down the line.
Rule 1. Electricity does not care which way it flows. Anything conductive is a go.
Make yourself a double ended plug. Both ends of the electrical cord are male for your 220v.

-Match your ends to the proper fittings of the sockets you will use. Nothing is standardized.

Insert one end into the electrical dyer outlet in the house which is 220v or 240v. The generator
is now running outside your house and well vented.
Rule 2. Electricity coming into your House must be OFF. Hit the main breaker to OFF.
Rule 3. DO NOT flip that main breaker back on until all cords are out of the sockets in the house
and the generator is OFF.

Using the pathway of your installed electrical house wiring, the little generator will service everything
AS LONG AS it has the amps to do so. The split level central A/C systems needs mega amps.
If you can't turn it over, don't try more than several times as you might wreck your condenser unit.
Electric stoves are also high amp.

^^^This^^^ The eye of this storm is still off the coast. But after ~8" of rain in ~3hrs, it could jump up to a Cat 1 by Saturday.
