HAS YOUR INTERNET BEEN DOWN?

Writing this because I saw @dazedb42 say "Just a couple of screenshots on twitter, my ISP has more holes in it than should be legal."

This was in https://the-fringe.com/thread-q_thread_u...#pid345947

Last night, actually much of the day as well but more often last night, our Internet kept going down. I'd power-cycle the cable modem, and it'd come back for a half hour or so.

I half-joked with my wife that "perhaps this is our 'Night of the Long Knives'" and then went to the basement and checked the connections; they were fine.

It's been up-and-down this morning as well. I uninstalled the VPN, thinking that might be it. Another data point is I run TradingView on this laptop with an external monitor, and beside it I have a tower connected to another monitor. Both monitors show TradingView charts. Occassionally (and, at least three times this morning in the hour I've been up), the charts have reloaded themselves. Not only the charts on my laptop -- the ones on the tower, as well.

I had thought the VPN might have been causing this, but it's uninstalled now. (Not sure HOW it could affect the other machine -- and, turns out it's not that.)

So, taking this quip I found on the Q thread and turning it into a question post. [LOL I just saw what I did with q words...]

What part of the country are you living in? Often times, the thawing of the ground and associated spring rains play havoc on underground cables. It doesn't take much to screw up your signal strength. I used to have to cable company come every year at our old house.
Get over it or die mad.

Thanks.  New England.  Ours comes from the pole.  Think I'll call the cable company today.

They're coming out tomorrow morning.  It's our cable modem/router combination device, so they're planning to charge $40-60 for the visit (unless their equipment is at fault).  Whatever, I just want it to work again.  Perhaps I'll get a second line, DirectTV or something, as a backup...

It sure sounds like a signal issue to me. They used to send a dumbass out first, who always blamed the cable modem, then I'd complain again and they'd send a line tech. It got to where every spring I'd call and demand a line tech right off the bat. He'd come inside, test the signal and go out to the amp, test it again. It was always either a bad cable (usually a corroded connection), or the amp needed to be adjusted.

Thanks, will insist they test the line.

Where I'm at Comcast has a competitor, I have great service. Funny how that works when they have to compete for your business.

when we got the bill yesterday, comcrap proudly announced they were going to raise its rates on many services. means more money in their bottemless pockets.
