New Jersey Governor Signs Bill Forcing Every Firearm Retailer to Sell Smart Guns

Quote:Gov. Phil Murphy (D) signed legislation Tuesday that will force every New Jersey firearm retailer to carry at least one so-called smart gun for sale in their stores.

Smart guns are a theoretical technology that began to be pushed while Bill Clinton was in office, but they have never made it mainstream because they can malfunction easily; be jammed, as one jams a cell phone; or be defeated with about $15 worth of magnets.

San Diego City Council: Guns Must Be Locked or Disabled in Homes

Quote:Fox 5 reports that the council’s six Democrat members all voted for the gun control, which is designed to force firearms to be locked up or be disabled even if no minors are present in the home.

ABC 10 reports that gun owners cannot legally store their firearms in just any lockbox, but they must be in a “Department of Justice-approved lockbox.” No indication was given for how much a DOJ approved lockbox will cost.

Opponents of the ordinance pointed out that locking up a gun or disabling it necessarily adds to the time necessary to have a given firearm ready for a self-defense situation. NBC 7 reports that “the California Rifle and Pistol Association wrote a letter to the council last week, saying the ordinance is not enforceable, unconstitutional.”

The last so-called smart gun I remember being introduced featured a wireless link to a wristwatch in order to fire. So yeah, a small sweep (freq) generator could take care of that. Plus the traditional reliability was questionable.

So far as the "disabled when not in use", the 80's had that covered. A company marketed what they called a BoreLock. A dummy case much like a snap cap in a revolver's cylinder or a semi-auto's chamber. Then a rod with a bulb on the muzzle end went down the barrel and with a 90° twist, locked into the dummy case.

I remember them as a kid. I thought they were too futuristic. Now, I want one. Never regretted my 10/22 though...

Had one of the Mohawk browns I bought in Fallon, NV with my winnings. Ditched it due to the tubular mag vs the 10/22's detachable. Stupid move!

It was a joke! Seems like the last couple of days, my sense of humor has been like an airplane that overshot the runway.
