Roses?! I'll stick with the Hornady CD. My 1911 sights are set to them. And as soon as I get my High Power slide back with my homemade F/O sights installed, I'll be sitting down with a rest to get them sighted in with 124gr loads.

The top right bullet is a Speer Gold Dot, it was once called the Black Talon until the MSM bitched and complained that it was a "cop killer" bullet and they quit making it, months later they brought it back as the "Gold Dot", same bullet without the black oxide finish, MSM 'tards didn't even see it come back. Kind of off-topic, but have any of you ever used a laser bore sight before?

I have a boat load of firearms that I will simply never shoot in my lifetime. Even so, it always bothered me that they weren't "combat ready" so to speak. I won't buy an old rifle if I can't get ammo for it anymore and in the same aspect, it bothered me not knowing if they were sighted in or not (I guess you can say I have gun OCD lol).

Anyway, I broke down earlier this week and bought one off Amazon. For $20, I wasn't too worried if it wasn't going to work out like I hoped. When I got I used it on 4 rifles that I absolutely know were zero'ed. A .22 open sights, .22 scoped, AR-15 red dot/magnifier and a .45 carbine red dot and laser designator.

I was pleasantly surprised that the bore sight matched every configuration I tried. It gave me some confidence that I could "sight in" some of my old military stuff someday with a decent degree of accuracy.

Even if I do change sights/optics on firearms I do use, the bore sight will be helpful in at least getting you on paper before you ever fire a single round.

I tack a 6" paper plate to my mailbox post (225 feet down the driveway) and sight the bore centered on it, then dial in the scope or red dot sight on it, works just fine as long as my neighbors don't look down the driveway at a rifle aimed their way. Chuckle

Now, I feel it's my duty to correct you. Speer's Gold Dot always carried the nickname, Flying Ashtray. While Winchester's Black Talon was reborn as the SXT round.

I should've bought a kit like that. The laser boresighter I picked up is .223 only. But having the open sights set with it made it a lot easier to set the red dot later. Like bolded above though, any boresighter is the first step. Go to the range and dial it in from there.
