25 Years Ago - FedEx Flt 705
#1
25 years ago, Federal Express Flight 705 was business as usual — until a hijacking attempt. Calloway allegedly planned to fly it straight into the hub.

What you don't hear is that after they cleared him for a straight in approach to runway 9, ATC changed up at the last minute and assigned him runway 36. Means he had to turn 90° south then make a 180° turn to line up. Folks on the field tell me he was wheelin' that DC10 around like a fighter!

Dayum ~ those Navy vets used every bit of their training to save the day.

Read the story ~ Capt. Sanders rivet tested that DC10 like one had never been stressed before or since.

Thanks for postin', Red.

Go click the link in the OP. Like Daj mentioned above, Tucker literally had that big plane upside down pointing at the ground. Both he and Sanders put it through a test it was never designed to pass.

And the article doesn't mention it. But I was always told Calloway had been employed by Flying Tigers before FedEx bought them. And disciplinary problems there had him with one foot in the unemployment line and the other on a banana peel. Somehow, he slipped in under the radar as FT pilots were hired in the transition.

So many nutters, was it the hijacker that had the hammer and was trying to kill everyone in it so the plane would crash and his family would get the life insurance? So many idiots like this, nutters to cause problems. They know a plane can be vulnerable and they take advantage of it.

Thought they were going to fire him. Plan was to hijack the plane and crash it so the fam got his life insurance.
