Here's an idea that has zero stress involved.

Maybe opening up a new sub forum where we can give member reviews of products we own and use. Every time I search for a product some of the results are always forum discussions on the product.

I guess I am just an optimist.

I see it very differently.

Ebb and flow.

I was embarrassed at some of the crap going on but we handled it. Loyalty to the Fringe and each other win the day.

I see blue skies and am looking forward to cultivating new members who won't have to put up with that crap, to begin with.

I'm not so sure they'll ever allow something that.
I'm not even so sure that I would like that idea as well.
They're never gonna allow the commercialization of this forum.

My thought was to get a forum skirmish going to just get the Fringe some publicity. I know we frown upon that sort of thing here, but as the saying goes "any publicity is good publicity". Unfortunately that is actually the secret to marketing, Coke vs. Pepsi , McDonald's vs. Burger King, PlayStation vs. XBOX, Republican vs. Democrat, you get the picture.  Scratchinghead 1dunno1

Personally, I am bored with the negativity. I can go anywhere on the internet and get that. I use the internet for information and to kill time. When I am on call, which I am a lot, I can't commit to anything that can't be dropped like a hot potato when that call comes in, so the internet is an available outlet.

I have a handful of sites that used to keep me engaged and amused, but I find that they are all starting to blend into the same negative, hate filled, bigoted, mass of regurgitated newspeak and memes.

It would be refreshing to have a place where people could share ideas, have informative civil discussions, forums where you can let your hair down and be silly, debate and get mad, without being rude, coarse and downright nasty.

I know the days have long passed, and are not very likely to return, where social media was expected to be civil. Now when you post you have to prepare yourself for the inevitable attack, regardless of topic. You could post about puppies and someone is going to have something negative and nasty to say. Free speech has been hijacked and weaponized, and you can get your poison anywhere and everywhere. I say opt for something different.

I can dream can't I?

Clock just chimed midnight! Off until morning! Going to pour a glass of wine and prepare for bed!

Post interesting content and then maintain your thread. If it doesn't get much response, let it slide and then post another thread about something that you find interesting.

What makes forums unique is their personality. That's what will attract more members. We have really interesting people here, but some are shy about posting threads. If you see an interesting thread, post in it. Support and post in the threads that will help to reflect the personality of this place.

As for other forums -- well, at least one of them didn't grow from grass roots support. Many of those people used to be here, remember? So stop comparing this place to that one. The success of that place was built on this one! No need to feel inferior. Do what you all do best. This forum grew from zero once. It can happen again if good people contribute good material and support one another while you're up here.

If you want to attract more members, this forum needs more sub forums. It will never grow beyond what it is with only one section that has no real parameters. A review section doesn't commercialize the forum, it just puts it out there more, it's up to the owners if they want to commercialize it.

I personally don't care, I like it the way it is because of the small number of members.

Kudos to you, Frigg, and for being such a loyal optimist, but it was painfully obvious that the ebbs weren't flowing too well of late. Coming here during the peak hours of the day and earlier part of the evening told a much different story. Hopefully, though, and with lots of hard work and fresh new ideas, your optimism will payoff.
