☯ Coronavirus Covid-19 News Live Maps Antivirals Hydroxychloroquine Quinine Zinc
(Yesterday, 11:21 AM)Hugh Glass Wrote: Italian officials: Coronavirus losing potency, “clinically no longer exists” in country.

According to hospital officials in one of Italy's hardest hit regions, new infections of coronavirus in the country are showing a staggering decline in potency and the virus has become far less lethal. The head of the San Raffaele Hospital in Milan delivered the encouraging news in an interview with RAI television.

"The swabs that were performed over the last 10 days showed a viral load in quantitative terms that was absolutely infinitesimal compared to the ones carried out a month or two months ago," he told RAI television.

This information would seem to explain the precipitous drop in infections and fatalities occurring in Italy throughout the month of May.

This is very interesting. My question is, has there ever been a virus that weakens? Usually things mutate and often get stronger. If a virus gets less potent over time, IMO it makes me think it was lab produced.

I'm no virologist, but as far as I know, viruses normally do not weaken over time nor when being passed from person to person. Nor do they weaken when passed to surfaces like countertops, doorknobs, etc. Instead, they die off on surfaces and in nature as well once herd immunity is reached and there is no one left to infect. However, viruses can lie dormant for years under the right conditions.

Exactly what I thought. We have had 30+ strains but to see it dying off or reducing so rapidly is very perplexing. It just doesn't seem natural.
Maybe it is a seasonal virus, that could be one explanation. It makes me wonder how strong the virus is in the recent American cases.

I don't know how credible the report from Italy is. It may very well be true or it could be a desperate attempt to save the lost summer tourist season from crushing the local businesses.

There are so many more reports about how covid-19 causes long term health problems. Personally, I am more concerned with that at this point as it is still so early.
