China confirms 139 new cases of pneumonia over weekend, virus spreads to new cities:

SHANGHAI (Reuters) - An outbreak of coronavirus in China is spreading to more cities, Chinese authorities reported on Monday, with 139 new cases found over the weekend, including a third death.

The Daxing health commission in the capital Beijing said it had confirmed two cases of coronavirus, while the southern Guangdong province's health commission confirmed one case in Shenzhen.

The new cases, the first inside China outside the central city of Wuhan where the virus was first reported, come as the country gears up for the Lunar New Year holidays later this week, when hundreds of millions of Chinese travel domestically and abroad.

Masks on, Chinese start holiday travels as alarm mounts over mystery virus:

BEIJING (Reuters) - Bundled up in winter clothes as they head home for the Lunar New Year holiday amid a health scare over a mystery new virus, Chinese travelers on the teeming concourse of Beijing West station were evenly split between the masked and the barefaced.

Covering up was clearly the best decision for many of the passengers waiting to board the packed train carriages for the 5-1/2 hour journey to Wuhan, the epicenter of an outbreak that has sent shivers through the world's most populous country.

Going back to her hometown, 28-year-old Tan Jie has been ribbed at work about the danger of contracting the new coronavirus, but the blue surgical mask on her face shows she is taking the risk seriously.

I've passed many people in the last week or so in public who were wearing masks..almost entirely asian looking people...
Also saw someone driving wearing a mask.

I did not count, but around a dozen people.

They do this all the time. I even see some of them wearing masks during the summer.

Yosemite National Park says 170 people ill in possible norovirus outbreak:

(Reuters) - Some 170 people who have spent time in Yosemite National Park in recent weeks have suffered from a gastrointestinal ailment "consistent with norovirus" and two have been diagnosed with the illness, park officials said on Thursday.

Most of those who became ill spent time in Yosemite Valley during or around the first week in January, park spokesman Scott Gediman said in a written statement, while the number of new cases reported has declined in the past several days.

Yosemite and national park health officials were investigating the outbreak, Gediman said, adding: "The overwhelming majority of the reported cases are consistent with norovirus."

U.S. to screen passengers for new China coronavirus at three airports:

(Reuters) - The United States will begin screening efforts at three U.S. airports to detect travelers from the central Chinese city of Wuhan who may have symptoms of a new respiratory virus that so far has killed two people and infected 45 more, public health officials said on Friday.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) said the screening at the San Francisco, New York and Los Angeles airports would begin on Friday and focus on travelers to the United States via direct or connecting flights from Wuhan.

So far, the new virus has spread outside of China to Japan and Thailand, and CDC officials said in a conference call with reporters that they expect more cases will be reported outside of China. The risk to Americans is deemed to be low, the CDC said.

Give me a break.
Those little blue masks are a joke.
You spend many hours in an airplane cabin breathing
other people's air. I don't give a damn if they say it is
recycled filtered air. Please.
Many people do NOT understand much of your air in
modern buildings is recycled air. The air handlers are set for
maybe 60-40% and you better pray the lazy good for nothing
maintenance man changes out the filters on the scheduled basis.
Lots of germs floating in those lovely hospitals too.
