On a more serious PSA about ticks, Lyme disease is the number one incurable vector-borne disease in America. A raging epidemic that no one talks about.

You are very correct and I believe this tick season is going to be real bad.

What do ticks and politicians have in common?
Written by ALAN CHARTOCK, Gazette publisher on June 27, 2017
Quote:I was sitting on the couch when Murray, the world’s cutest dog (bar none), came and sat down next to me. It was Father’s Day so I was aware that I had to pay special attention to the little dog who, after our two grown kids, stands to inherit what we leave once we have departed. Murray tilted his head and said to me in English, which he learned at the Literacy Network of South Berkshire, “Pop, you’re a political scientist and a bit of health nut and, frankly, a hypochondriac, so I am really puzzled. We are all worried about ticks. I’ve had them, you’ve had them, and so I got to thinking about ticks and politicians. It seems to me they have a lot in common.”

“What do you mean, Murray?” I asked the little mass of muscle and hair.

“Well, Pops, you know how a tick leeches on to you and sucks your blood, right out of your body?”

“Yes, Murray,” I said.

“Politicians do the same thing, don’t they?”

“Oh, come on, Murray,” I said. “I know a lot of politicians who are really wonderful people.”

“Well, Pops, I don’t want to bite the hand that feeds me, but there really is more evidence that ticks and politicians share the same genome.”

Here in the deep south, the season hasn't ended and the ticks are prevalent and minuscule. I'm not finding them on my animals until they're attached and swollen.

How can there be a raging epidemic of a controversial, incurable disease, and no mention just about anywhere? Justin Bieber just came out with having it - but he says he's under treatment and hopes to recover fully ... which isn't the type of nonsense publicity this disease needs. Just finding a Dr. who understands it is an expensive undertaking. And, if you're poor, forget about it. They may even try to pin "Dr.-shopping for drugs" on you before you even run out of m0ney.

Here in NYC, and as kids, we used to do two things to get rid of ticks. The first was the old cigarette thingy, but that never worked out too well since you wound up killing them way before they pulled themselves free. Or you burned yourself as well.

The second thing worked better. However, I may have a few of the details wrong, but we took some chewin' tobacco and mixed it with a bit of whiskey and let it sit for a few minutes. Next, we dipped a Q-Tip into the liquid and dabbed it onto the tick. It didn't take very long to get a response, though. lol.

I heard cooking oil (any kind will work), suffocates and panics them then they withdraw their siphon and scramble to breath...no stomach contents exchanged.
