Sad day here in southern Maine. One of the beloved DJs is stepping down from his 10 year Saturday afternoon time slot. His wife fully retired a few months ago and wants him full time. I've co-hosted (includes programming the music) on the show I think 5 times and it was a BLAST! His last show starts in an hour and I think it's about time to start drinking.

After his show last week I put pen to paper (well, typed in Word - lol) and this was the end result. @phxsparks - Bill told me if time permits that The Real Don Steele may make an appearance towards the end of the show.

Ode to The Night Train Show

10 years ago, everything changed
When I found my Saturday plans re-arranged
There was this funky DJ spinning old 60’s tunes
That compelled me to run all my errands by noon

So that I could be sure that by 1:30 pm
I was all set and ready to listen in
To his take on vintage KHJ Radio bits
The Big Kahuna, Wolfman Jack & Boss Radio hits

He sure hit a chord with my coming of age
From long-gone Los Angeles radio days
There were times I’d rush home and dial in WMPG
Only to find he’d dedicated a song to me

Then I realized at Beg-A-Thon time
I could actually sit-in and make the show mine
While sitting next to him feeling all nervous and shy
Though when it was over, I had to ask why

The best times of your life will catch you by surprise
Just when you think you’re all worldly and wise
Something as simple as playing DJ for a day
Reminded my elder self how to play

There were after show meet-ups at The Great Lost Bear
Kamikazes, & beer and so much to share
About the days show with music and style
We won’t see this again, in quite some while

We’ve been lucky enough that it lasted this long
The jingles, the music that made it spot on
For 10 perfect years our homes have been filled
With the best of Boss Radio hosted by Bill

So, thank you Bill, for getting the vibe
For those of us KHJ fans still alive
From the East coast to West
You will be the DJ, that I remember the best

My glass is raised to Heather, Jonny Spindle, Poolside Steve, Art & Rick, Rat Fink
And all of your co-hosts and fans who helped keep the music alive.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Thanks!!! I think I had it written in about 20 minutes. It's not perfect cadence in some parts, but it is from the heart.

There are times I try and try and nothing comes of it. Then other times, it just flows. This was one of those times. I really love this DJ and we've had a lot of great times together over the years.
This is so cool. Beautifully done! Glad that the show, and the run, was a blast for you!
Well done, @~hannah~ !! [Image: TK6j3OA.gif]
