Pope Francis has acknowledged the abuse of nuns by priests and bishops - and admitted some of them had been used as 'sex slaves.'
The Pope, whose papacy has been marked by efforts to quell a global crisis over sexual abuse of children by Catholic clergy, said yesterday he was committed to stopping the abuse.
Pope Francis made his comments on the plane back from Abu Dhabi in response to a reporter's question about a Vatican monthly magazine article last week about the abuse of nuns in the Catholic Church.
Recently more nuns, encouraged by the MeToo movement, have been coming forward to describe abuse at the hands of priests and bishops.
Last year, the International Union of Superiors General - which represents more than 500,000 Catholic nuns - urged their members to report abuse.

What did Pope Francis say?
Speaking to reporters while on a historic tour of the Middle East on Tuesday, the pontiff admitted that the Church had an issue, the roots of which lie in "seeing women as second class".
He said that priests and bishops had abused nuns, but said the Church was aware of the "scandal" and was "working on it", adding that a number of clerics had been suspended.
"It's a path that we've been on," he said.
"Pope Benedict had the courage to dissolve a female congregation which was at a certain level, because this slavery of women had entered it - slavery, even to the point of sexual slavery - on the part of clerics or the founder."
Pope Francis said sexual abuse of nuns was an ongoing problem, but happened largely in "certain congregations, predominantly new ones".
"I think it's still taking place because it's not as though the moment you become aware of something it goes away."
Where is the abuse said to have taken place?
The female congregation dissolved in 2005 under Pope Benedict was the Community of St Jean, which was based in France, Alessandro Gisotti of the Vatican press office told CBS News.
In 2013, the Community of St Jean admitted that priests had behaved "in ways that went against chastity" with several women in the order, according to the French Roman Catholic newspaper La Croix.
In a separate case in India last year, a bishop was arrested over allegations that he raped a nun 13 times between 2014 and 2016.
Bishop Franco Mulakkal, who headed the diocese in Jalandhar in the northern state of Punjab, has denied the accusations.
In Chile, reports of abuse of nuns carried out by priests led the Vatican to launch an investigation last year. The women were reportedly removed from the order after highlighting the abuse.
Last year, the Associated Press news agency reported cases of abuse in Italy and Africa.
What have women in the Church said?
Just days ago the Vatican's women's magazine, Women Church World, condemned the abuse, saying in some cases nuns were forced to abort priests' children - something Catholicism forbids.
The magazine's editor, Lucetta Scaraffia, said Pope Francis's acknowledgement of the abuse "can be of some help", but warned that the Church needs to act.
"If the Church continues to close its eyes to the scandal... the condition of oppression of women in the church will never change," she wrote.
The magazine said the #MeToo movement meant more women were now coming forward with their stories.

Pedophiles, homosexuals & rapists. What a spiritual bunch of priests they have.
Not all are off course but how could one be a priest with this evil going on around them & remain silent?

(No I have no issue with homosexuality. I do have an issue with their astounding hypocrisy)
Gee, I never would have guessed Catholic priests were banging nuns!

Awful Disclosures by Maria Monk

In brief, the book purports to be the account of a young Canadian woman, Maria Monk (1816–1849), who had been a nun in a convent in Montreal in the 1830s. Purportedly, priests routinely entered the premises through a secret tunnel and forced themselves upon the defenseless young women. If they became impregnated, Monk claimed, the infant would, on delivery, be baptized, strangled, and dumped in a basement lime pit (Monk n.d., 130–31). Finding herself pregnant, Monk escaped, had her baby, and penned the tell-all tale—or so we are urged to believe.

There is doubt that Maria Monk actually wrote the book. She was uneducated and the language of the book is indicative of an educated person.

Most likely, if the account is true, she told her story to someone who ghost wrote it for publication.
It is a very rare occurance, but that doesn't stop "Francis" the Wrecking Ball
from making the most of it, and the media is all so pleased to embellish with their imaginations.

The issue with "Francis" has been an ongoing problem since Benedict "resigned".

The pluralism and the diversity of religions, colour, sex, race and language are willed by God in His wisdom, through which He created human beings.

Document co-signed by Francis and the "Grand Imam of Al-Azhar" Ahmad Al-Tayyeb

This contradicts not only Catholicism and Orthodoxy but any Christianity. It contradicts history and the Bible,
and even basic Monotheism.

Everyday a new thing about the church comes out to destroy what good memories you had of it as a child

I had heard of stuff like this as a child but never believed it and dismissed it as just rubbish talk between kids hanging out.

Oh well

Another fond memory flushed down the toilet

Full Throttle

The RCC is destined to failure. Ten years, and they will be too broke to make a difference in anyone's life.

Ten years, write it down. Yeah3
It's broken now.

Francis is making a play to destabilize it further. When he ascended to Holy See, he could have moved straight away to help expose such sexual conduct, correcting and healing the errors of the past.

Instead, he concentrated on championing global warming, introduced the possibility of gay marriage into the Church, attacked the US governmental system, and asked for open borders while living behind a wall that would have put Jericho to shame....

He's admitting this now to further an upheaval within the Church. I've openly stated before: he will be the one to betray the City on the Seven Hills.
