California gun owners brace for shortages, price hikes under new ammo regs

Proposition 63, the ballot initiative voters approved in November, sets out a different system. People interested in buying ammunition would have to purchase a four-year permit from the Department of Justice. The state could charge up to $50 for the ammo license. Retailers would be required to check with the department to ensure customers have a valid permit.

This new requirement is one of two new ammunition laws that were passed by the California legislature or adopted by California voters in 2016. The law that took effect on January 1 will generally prohibit gun owners from bringing ammunition into the Golden State or from purchasing their ammunition online.

California adopted these new laws in spite of significant evidence that they would only burden law-abiding gun owners and do nothing to promote public safety. Most notably, the reporting of ammunition sales has already been tried -- and failed -- at the federal level.

Seems a lot like infringement. I'll never understand why anyone chooses to live under the tyranny of the State. People actually voted to have their rights trampled by the traitors who they also voted into office.

Holy Smokes. I think they could do a little better than 31 cents a round. Be sure you have a forklift or pallet jack

ATTENTION – California Customers
Brownells is still shipping ammunition orders to California but the process has changed to comply with California Proposition 63. We must now ship ammunition purchased online to an FFL or California-approved ammunition dealer. After placing your order, a Brownells representative will contact you to ensure your ammunition arrives quickly and in compliance with the law.
