This is a health hazard situation where there is a reasonable probability that the use of the product can cause serious, adverse health consequences.

Mondelez Global, one of the world’s largest food conglomerates, announced a recall for several Ritz Cracker products on Saturday after their ingredient supplier announced a recall due to salmonella concerns.

Most people do not associate Salmonella with chips, but the bacteria is not limited to raw meats. In this case, the Salmonella could be found in the seasoning sprinkled on the crackers.

Mondelēz Global LLC announced a voluntary recall in the United States, Puerto Rico & the U.S. Virgin Islands, of certain Ritz Cracker Sandwiches and Ritz Bits product. For a full list of affected products please visit:

If you experience any of the following symptoms of Salmonella poisoning for more than a few days, please consult a primary care physician or urgent care clinic:

Stomach Cramps
Diarrhea
Nausea
Fever
Vomiting

The elderly, children, and anyone with a compromised immune system should be seen by a doctor immediately if they exhibit these symptoms. While salmonella is treatable in the vast majority of individuals who contract it, it’s known for being a very nasty bacteria which can often cause death.

The recall includes certain Riz Cracker sandwiches and Ritz Bitz products that contain whey powder as an ingredient. The company that supplies whey powder to the manufacturers of Ritz products recalled their whey powder due to salmonella concerns.

Salmonella can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, the elderly, and those with weakened immune systems. Symptoms of an Salmonella infection include fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain.

So far no complains of illnesses connected to the products included in the recall have been reported to Mondelez Global. The company says the recall is a precaution based on their ingredient supplier’s recall.

The following products have been recalled due to possibility of salmonella infections:

Ritz Bits Cheese
Ritz Cheese Cracker Sandwiches
Ritz Bacon Cracker Sandwiches with Cheese
Ritz Whole Wheat Cracker Sandwiches With White Cheddar Cheese
Ritz Everything Cracker Sandwiches With Cream Cheese
Mixed Cookie Cracker Variety

Consumers are advised to discard any of those products, as they may be contaminated with the deadly salmonella bacteria. If you have questions, comments, or concerns, you can contact the company directly at 1-844-366-1171, which is a 24/7 hotline available for access anywhere globally.
