I should have anticipated that :) Man it's a struggle to keep a perspective broad enough to think through all the different potentials as new events unfold. That one is a "natural" but it hadn't crossed my mind yet.
I've been rabbiting on about the Uyghurs, Xianjiang and NE Afghanistan for weeks now and that map is very helpful in explaining what I think is likely to unfold. I have been looking for this map for days and had lost it. @roamer found it again for me so hopefully I can finally develop this line of speculation soon.

See that one darkest green area noted on the map? That is the Uyghur (one of) held area ....Turkestan Islamic Party. Remember both names because if I'm right we'll hear a lot more of both in coming months.

The Uyghur (TIP) faction also control key neighborhoods in Idlib city itself.

But for now, note that their MAIN enclave is almost wiped out by the 15-20km proposed DMZ

S-400 effective range: 400 km = 250 miles
S-400 in Crimea covers a large part of the Black Sea and the Southern border area of Ukraine.

Quote:There are now three battalions of the advanced Russian air defense system stationed in the Crimean peninsula, which is a major strategic strongpoint for the military and the home of Russia's Black Sea Fleet.

The third battalion of eight launchers, 112 missiles and command and support vehicles has been deployed in Evpatoria in western Crimea, the press service of the Black Sea Fleet confirmed Friday.

Later in the day, a military source said that a fourth battalion would soon be deployed outside the town of Dzhankoy in Crimea's north.

S-400s were earlier deployed to Feodosiya and Sevastopol in January 2017 and 2018, respectively.

Time for me to get Google Earth and the measuring tool out again :) Sounds like this has the whole SW flank of Russia just about covered with a sophisticated AD umbrella.
Gunmen Open Fire at Military Parade in South Iran, Casualties Reported (VIDEO)

I don't think Iran will allow this to go unanswered. Just recently they sent a barrage of missiles into Northern Iraq ... and depending on how the Ayatollahs want to spin it, they may want the reaction to send Israel a message too this time. Iranians are nowhere near as reticent and measured as Russian diplomacy has been.

Quote:According to the Iranian state news agency IRNA 24 people, including a journalist, have been killed in a terrorist attack at a military parade in Iran, while 53 others have been injured.

Iran will respond "swiftly and decisively" to an attack on southwestern Iran, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said.

"Terrorists recruited, trained, armed & paid by a foreign regime have attacked Ahvaz," Javad Zarif tweeted. "Iran will respond swiftly and decisively in defense of Iranian lives."

Quote:...The military parade was held in honor of the anniversary of the beginning of an armed conflict between Iran and Iraq...

That last quote indicating the symbolism behind the timing implies NEOCON/MEK/CIA sponsorship...and I'm sure the Ayatollahs got the message. But they can still find a way to spin in Israeli involvement if they wish to. There's a good probability there IS a link :)
