A ROYAL Prince was killed after being thrown from a horse during a race near Apethorpe Palace, Northamptonshire at his friend’s £2.5million country retreat.

Prince Georg-Constantin of Saxe-Weimar-Eisenach, 41, was thrown off a horse while riding with his friend Jean Christophe Iseux, Baron von Pfetten.

Emergency services were called to the scene after receiving a 999 call at around at 8.30pm on Saturday, to a man suffering life-threatening injuries.

He was later pronounced dead.

A spokesman for Northamptonshire Police said: “Police were called to reports of a sudden death in East Northamptonshire at about 9.25pm on Saturday, June 9.

“Sadly a man in his 40s is believed to have died following a riding accident.
