I eat about 5 salads a week. Thank goodness I prefer baby spinach over romaine.

Always an issue with the lettuce. Facepalm

I've never cared for romaine all that much. I generally buy iceberg lettuce during the winter, and I grow my own from spring through fall.

My husband likes iceberg. I like the crunch of it but it has no flavor. I really like spinach, arugula, butter lettuce, and raddichio. I've never grown any of it. I'm thinking of doing so this year. I don't have a green thumb, my husband is going to help me out. :-)

I eat it because it is good for me. If it weren't, I'd probably skip it altogether.

However, lettuce is very good for our health!
Just put a nutritious salad dressing on it so it tastes good to you.
I use it in salads, but I also put it on sandwiches at every opportunity.

It's super easy to grow. Just pick up a little six-pack of it at your local nursery. Also some good potting soil -- and some pots of the right size of course. They don't have to be "fancy" pots. Just the black plastic ones work just fine. Get pots that hold at least two quarts of soil for each plant.
Also some fertilizer -- I use Osmocote, which I realize doesn't make my lettuce truly organic, but I don't have access to some composted barnyard fertilizer.

I grow mine on my deck, which protects the plants from rabbits and deer.
Also, being on my deck it is more protected, and I can generally grow it about 10 months of the year.

Stop watering vegetable crops with human sewage. We never had these types of problems 20 years ago.
Huge fresh head of romaine from my own garden in the fridge. It's in AZ, but I'm pretty sure nobody pooped in my garden.
