Authorities are searching for a Pittsburgh man missing since Friday near the New River Gorge National River in West Virginia.

The National Park Service said George Andrew Gross, 56, was in Beckley, W.Va. on Jan. 12 when he telephoned a family member to say he was interested in hiking in or around New River Gorge. They have not heard from him since Friday afternoon

Yeah, it's not surprising at all.

Rookies make all kinds of stupid mistakes.

What they are not telling us is the last thing he said was "I hear banjo music".

I haven't been there since I was a kid and they were building the bridge, but that was the way that whole area seemed to be.

My crazy old man (65) recently spent 2 freezing winter nights wilderness camping in the smokies. Remember that freezing weather that swept thru the east before and on ny eve and day?

This crazy motherfucker was out in -20 windchill weather. ( with another crazy guy friend.) But they were trained, prepared and had the right gear.

fucking nutz.
And, yes, I tell him that.
Lol

Sorry for the swearing. I'm buzzed.
Sounds like he's probably a Marine given his tattoo.
Which would indicate to me he could take care of
himself including and maybe especially in an outdoor
setting.

Nice eyes and smile. Pray he is found. candle

I thought the same.

:(
It would seem a lot of people disappear into the woods. Maybe they lose their way, maybe Cryptids get them, some commit suicide and never return.
Maybe there are crazy Hillbillies like in Wrong Way that trap and kill them.
